Richard Bodiker

Distinguished Alumnus Former State Representative Richard Bodiker, Class of 1954

Born on  August 17, 1936, Richard “Dick” Bodiker graduated from Richmond High School in 1954 and attended Ball State University. He worked for Dana Corporation in Richmond for thirty years where he became involved in the labor movement, serving on the UAW. He was elected to City Council for Richmond and served from 1984 to 1986. He was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1986, and was Chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee. He spent sixteen years, until 2003, as State Representative for the Democratic party.

For many years he coached or umpired Little League. Bodiker’s community service includes Optimist, Kiwanis, Urban Enterprise Zone, UAW, IU East Board of Advisers, Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way.  He and wife Nancy Jennings Bodiker, class of 1957, deceased, had seven children between them.  He lives in Richmond.

He is an IU East Chancellor’s Medallion recipient for Distinguished Service, was named Outstanding Democrat by the Indiana Library Federation, a Sagamore of the Wabash, a Kentucky Colonel, a Welch-Bowen Distinguished Public Official, and acknowledged by the Richmond Adult Day Care with the Hoosiers for Higher Education Award.  Dick Bodiker was selected as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2012.
