Daniel Bailey

Distinguished Alumnus Danny Bailey, Class of 1960  

Daniel Bailey was the son of Donald and Lois Bailey and lived at 1314 South L Street.  He received his BS degree from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, in 1964, and his MA in special education in 1969 from New York University in New York.

He taught elementary school at Baxter School in Richmond in 1965 and taught at the Richmond State Hospital from 1966-67.

Bailey taught autistic children in the New York City school system from 1969-96 and created a program to teach sex education to autistic and mentally challenged children in 1987. In 1990 Bailey was one of seventy-six teachers selected for the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship program which funds teachers to continue to develop special-needs programs.  Danny Bailey, former Red Devil mascot, died January 22, 1994.  He was selected Distinguished Alumnus in 1996.
