Bob Van Pelt

Bob Van Pelt, Class of 1963

Former NFL player, Bob Van Pelt, has given back to RHS for more than thirty years.  He played college ball for Indiana University from 1963 until 1966. In 1966 he led the Hoosiers as their team football captain and was selected as an All-Big Ten center that same year.

Van Pelt was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1967 and also played pro ball for the Detroit Lions and the Cincinnati Bengals.

He and his wife, Laura, returned to Richmond where Van Pelt opened several restaurants.   He volunteered as a tutor for young football players at annual camps, having six of his students later become All–State centers. He was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2012. He is the father of Lori, Kelly, and Bo, who excels in pro golf and, like his father, gives back to the community with an annual youth golf clinic, First Tee.
