Jerry Coleman, Class of 1987

Jerry Coleman has become our latest inductee to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame for his performance on the 1985 and 1987 state runner–up basketball  team as point guard. Coleman averaged 18 pts per game as a senior. He played 2.5 years on varsity for RHS, helping his team to win 56 of 72 games.

Jerry attended Northeast Community College in Nebraska where he was selected MVP in their conference, averaging 19.5 points per game, 81% from the line, and 46.3% from the floor.

Jerry worked for at Dennis Middle School for 11 years and has worked the past two years for RHS in the Math department for special needs students. At Dennis, he held a similar position while also coaching 8th grade basketball, boys and girls cross country, track, and volleyball.

“JC” was named 1987 Indiana Mini Mr. Basketball, an award given to the state’s best player under 5′ 10″.

Jerry and the other members of the 2012 Silver Anniversary Team were honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle, IN, on March 21, 2012.

Jerry is getting his degree with the help of an RCIP Alumni scholarship.  “This is my time,” says Coleman of his pursuit of his own education.
